Gary Cornelius

Gary W. Cornelius, 59, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 27, 2007 surrounded by his family at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. He was born March 27, 1948, in Long Beach, California. Gary was very active in sports and boating and enjoyed coaching little league. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed watching NASCAR, and hunting with the DeLaria family. Gary loved spending time with his grandchildren, and was looking forward to Cadee’s wedding at the end of July.
He is survived by his daughters, Jody (Sean) Kimberley of Urbandale, Joy (Clayton) Linquist of Urbandale, Cadee Cornelius (Gabriel Arroyo) of West Des Moines, his grandchildren, Kristine, Dillon, Allen, Alex, and Jackson, his mother, Catherine Cornelius of Moundville, AL and brother, Robert Cornelius of Ft. Worth TX, his sister Alane Young of Nixa, MO. He was preceded in death by his father, Ken Cornelius.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at St. Mary’s of Nazareth Catholic Church, 4605 N.W. 47th Court in Des Moines. Burial will take place in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
