Edward Moreland, husband of Joyce Moreland, died from complications following a kidney transplant Wednesday, June 27 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral Services will be held 10 AM Saturday, June 30th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elkhart with burial following at the Elkhart Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday 5-8 with a 7:30 vigil service at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home.
Edward was born August 27, 1951 to Beryl and Margaret (Peg) Moreland in Des Moines. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. After Collapsing 2 years ago, no one would have believed he would ever lead a dependent life again, but he did. He received his first kidney transplant from his brother Dan in 1989.
Ed was a member of Local 3 Bricklayers Union. Ed loved sports especially watching the Braves play, and high school and college wrestling. He played men’s fast pitch softball in Des Moines for years with his brothers and always enjoyed watching his son’s play softball. When his son’s were young he coached them in little league and was President of Mitchellville Little League for several years.
His latest passion was gardening. He took the Master Gardener class last winter and was working for the HyVee greenhouse in Altoona. He commented many times that he was the best gardener and decorated his yard with many flowers. He loved to fish and made many trips to Canada, and especially loved the ones with his family. He was an avid hunter and helped teach hunter safety classes in Iowa.
Ed will be missed dearly by his mother, Peg; 3 brothers, Al (Pam), Dan and Dean; Nieces, Shelby and Kelli; Children, Brian (Shawna), Kori, Scott (Crystal), Aaron, Nikki, (Jim Rasmussen) and Christa and 6 grandchildren; Spenser, Alex, Kasandra, Brock, Payton, Caitlyn and especially by his wife Joyce.
He was preceded in death by his father, Uncle Dick, Aunt Dreda, and Cousin Sean and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Ed always said he was lucky to have Joyce as a spouse, but she knew she was the lucky one.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
