Service Details

Julia Ann Wilson passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2013. “Julie” was born October 27, 1971, in Des Moines, Iowa. She and her family moved to California, and then to Tennessee for her dad’s career in the Navy. They returned to Des Moines in June 1978, where she has since been a life-long resident. Julie was a proud “South-Sider,” graduating from Lincoln High School in May 1989. In the late 90s, she became a transplanted “East-Sider,” where she resided in her beautiful home with her son, Dakota “Koty” until her passing. Julie’s son, Koty, meant the world to her, not a day went by that she didn’t talk (brag) about how proud she was of him and how much she loved him.

Julie found her life-long career in shipping and receiving while working at her first job in high school for Premiere Photo. She worked there for a number of years before she landed her job with Joseph Jewelers. Julie became the shipping manager in 2002 where she continued until her passing. She had a strong work ethic and was excellent at her job. Even though she was a tough manager at work, she was considerate and thoughtful.

Julie loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her son, Koty, and her nephews, Andrew “Andy” and Connor. They loved their aunt Ju-Ju very dearly. The four of them loved going fishing and just spending time together on a regular basis.

Julie had many hobbies. She passed on the joy of cooking to her son. Julie was also very creative and created beautiful cross-stitched pieces, soaps, and pretty bracelets that she often gave as gifts. She took many photos of her cats, and they brought her a lot of enjoyment. Julie was knowledgeable about many topics and could talk about anything. She was a treasured friend and family member who will be missed dearly by those whose lives she touched.

Julie is survived by her son, Dakota “Koty” Weller; father, Jim Wilson, both of Des Moines; sister, Jennifer (Wayne) Daniels; nephews, Andrew “Andy” and Connor Daniels, all of Altoona; step-father, Robert McGehee of Des Moines; and a host of family and friends at Joseph Jewelers, UPS, FedEx, and the US Postal Service.

Julie was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Lynn McGehee, grandparents; and her beloved dog, Cali.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
