Alfred Pridemore

Alfred O. Pridemore, 70, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Altoona Nursing and Rehab. He was born on February 7, 1942, in Louisiana, to Alfred O. and Florence (Nesser) Pridemore.

Alfred loved the water and had a passion for maritime work. As a younger man, he worked the shrimp boats in Louisiana. Alfred once took an ocean liner to Costa Rica. He also took part in a treasure salvage off the coast of Guatemala. He retired from Iowa Quality Meats in 1998. Alfred loved all animals. He was a volunteer for the Easter Seals. He also loved wood and leather working.

He is survived by his son, Franklin Pridemore of Louisiana; daughter, Kathy (Patrick) Havens of Des Moines; son, Alfred Pridemore, Jr., of Missouri; daughter, Sally Ann Pridemore of Mississsippi; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League in loving memory of Alfred.
