Service Details

Betty J. Foddrill, 87, formerly a life-long resident of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2013, at her son’s home in Dubuque, Iowa, of heart disease and COPD. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 N. W. 60th Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the memorial service.

Betty was born on January 18, 1925, to Oscar and Mabel Griggs in Des Moines, Iowa. She lived on E. 29th St. for 46 years and then lived with her sister, Donna, for two years prior to moving to her son’s home in Dubuque, Iowa. Betty loved to babysit and spoil her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, working in her yard with her son, Bill, and especially enjoyed feeding and watching her backyard birds and squirrels. She received the “Yard of the Week” award in her neighborhood. She was a member of the Masonic Order of Eastern Star East Gate Chapter 538. Betty’s personality and kind-hearted nature never allowed her to complain. She always put others’ needs before her own. Betty was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish Betty’s memory are two sons, Robert (Judy) Foddrill of Dubuque, Iowa, and their daughter Barbara (Eric) Weisenberger of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri; Michael (Marilyn) Foddrill of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and their sons Timothy Garland of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Gary Garland of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Foddrill of Johnston, Iowa, and her children Brian (Kristian) Foddrill of Kelly, Iowa, John (Angela) Foddrill of Buxton, Maine, Shelly (David) McElligott of Johnston, Iowa, and two sisters, Donna Daily of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mary Warren of Granbury, Texas; great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, in 1996, her parents, Oscar and Mabel Griggs, a son, William Foddrill, and a great granddaughter, Lauren Weisenberger.

Betty’s children want to extend a special thanks to Betty’s sister, Donna, for all her loving care of Betty and also special thanks to Irene, Jenny and Maria of Hospice of Iowa for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Des Moines Animal Rescue League or the Diabetes Foundation.
