Lloyd Tate, Sr.

Lloyd D. Tate Sr.,79, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, January 10, 2013. He was born in Des Moines on May 23, 1933, to Carrie (Caroline) and Eddie (Edward) Robinson, Jr., and later adopted by Minnie and Frank Tate.
He loved trains, westerns, wrestling, and working on cars and motorcycles, but he truly cherished the time spent with his great-great-grandson, Austin Tate. He was preceded in death by his birth parents; adopted parents; step-daughter Ruie Morris; sisters Jewell Holiday, Ruth Edwards, Grace Howard, Bernadine Davis, and Minnie Curry; and brothers Eddie Robinson and Walter Robinson.
Left to remember him are his wife, Mary (Tindrell) Tate of IA; sister Viola Robinson of IA; step-children MaryAnn Russell of MN and Diane Seals of IA; children Opal Smith of TX, Shirley Woods of IA, Lloyd Tate, Jr., of IA, John (Linda) Tate of TX, Debbie Martin of TX, and David (Dana) Tate of IA; and scores of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 15, 2013. Visitation will start at 10:30 am, with memorial services immediately following at 1:00pm.
Lloyd’s granddaughter Sherry, and her husband Keith, would like to extend their sincere, heart-felt thanks to the staff at Altoona Nursing & Rehabilitation for their compassionate, loving care of “Gramps.”
