Opal G. Gulley

Opal Gulley, 60, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Opal was born October 7, 1952, in Rosston, Arkansas. She had lived in the Des Moines area for the past 37 years. Opal loved spending time with her grandboys. She was a wonderful cook; her specialties were sweet potato pie, chicken dressing, and collard greens. Opal also enjoyed her coffee, doing her nails, and going shopping.

Opal is survived by her children, Margareta (Jonathan) Bright, Felicia Paris, and Jamie Lynn Gulley; grandboys, Jonathan Bright Jr., Michael Bright, Leon Paris, Jerome Mozee, Elijah Cobbins, and Julien Cobbins; sisters, Jessie Mae Staples, Benora Box, Gertrude Young, and Ira Jean Tidwell; brothers, Donnaray Staples, Jerry, Terry, Freddy, and Louis Young; and a host of other extended relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Young and Lorraine Gulley; sister, Patricia Young; and her nephew, Nicholas Young.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Oralabor Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
