Marilyn (Patten) Perreira

Marilyn Jean (Patten) Perreira, 80, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Mercy Hospital. She was born March 23, 1932, in Norwalk, to Violet and Lamont Patten.

Marilyn graduated from Norwalk High, where she participated on the girls basketball team with her sister Mary, and continued playing for Solar Aircraft where she was employed.

Marilyn loaded up her new 1963 Falcon with winter clothes and her two kids, and moved to the sunshine state of California and purchased a home. Marilyn was a computer operator at United Grocers for 22 years in Richmond; she was a teamster member. She enjoyed her participation in the Women’s Auxiliary for VFW 8399, the Atchison Village Women’s Club, and as a Den Mother.

Marilyn and her late husband Joe enjoyed traveling on a motorcycle, camping and fishing – exploring all parts of California.

She found her passion in volunteering for the Red Cross in 1992 and was a member of the Disaster Team. She aided in many domestic fires, floods, and hurricanes, as well as international disasters, as far as Guam and St. Croix.

She enjoyed traveling with her sister Mary as far as London, Dublin, and Paris, and even took a cruise. She partook in many cousin reunions which took them to various places in the states. Her and her sister were both bowling advocates, and this allowed for many bowling tournaments around the states.

Marilyn enjoyed time with her family which was important to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Oliver (Bud); her sister, Mary (Bob) Daly; and her husband, Joseph Perreira.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Dennis (Debra) Snyder and Kristy (Ron) Abercrombie; a grandson, Bryan; two great-grandsons, Ian and Joseph; her brothers, Jack (Joann) Patten and Jerry (Shirley) Patten; her sister in-law, Esther Patten; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A private family burial will be held in the spring at North River Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Red Cross.
