Dorothy Welch

Dorothy M. Welch, 83, died June 24, 2007 at the Kavanagh House on 56th Street. Dorothy lived at the Luther Park Trinity Center. She was born May 14, 1924, in Ames, Iowa and adopted by James and Nellie Walton. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Oskaloosa and avid tennis fan. Dorothy was a devoted mother and wife and loved to cook and care for her family.
She is survived by her sons, Garvin (Sharon) of Elkhart, twins Terry (Barbara) of Polk City and Gerry of Des Moines, and Randy (Jayne) of Urbandale, all Welch; daughter, Cindy (James) Dacus of Ankeny; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband Almon G. “Gilly” Welch; brothers, George Overgaard and John Wilke; and sisters, Marie McCoy and Virginia Clark.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Burial will take place in Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa, Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.
