Donald Reisner, 62, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013, at his home in Altoona. He was born April 21, 1950, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Marvin and Dorothy (Burdick) Reisner.
He served in the United States Navy from 1969-1971. Donald was a realtor for 23 years, and most recently worked for the University of Iowa Hygenic Lab as a courier.
Donald was President of Make a Wish Foundation in 1999, and was involved for over 10 years with the foundation. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed golf, the Iowa Hawkeyes, “Da” Bears and the Cubs.
Donald is survived by his wife, Deb; daughter, Heather Ferguson; son, Ben (Jill) Reisner; grandchildren, Libby Ferguson, Kyler Skaggs, and Claire and Brynn Reisner; and brothers, Marvin (Jan) Reisner, and twin brother, Ron (Cheri) Reisner. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Tom, Dennis, and Lloyd Reisner.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with a committal service following at 2 p.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Make a Wish Foundation in loving memory of Donald.

Very sad to hear of Donny (as i will always remember him) passing. Prayers and love go out to Debby,Heather,Ben and family. I have many fond memories of the Reisner twins! Deb,you and Donny made it all work! Great Husband! Great Family!

I just received word of this very sad news - I am so shocked to hear of Don's passing. (Gosh, I just talked to you about a year ago Deb and everyone was doing fine). I always enjoyed Don's unique sense of humor, he was clever fellow and a good man. I am so sorry to hear of your loss - may family and friends help to ease your sorrow in this difficult time. Thinking of you and hoping all of your memories help to ease your grief. Thinking of you Deb, Ben, Heather and your families during this difficult time.

My sincere condolences go out to the entire Reisner family.
I first met Don and Ron when they lived just behind my childhood home on 1st Avenue Northeast in Oelwein. Both were three years older than I, so I looked up to them and was always impressed by their sports abilities, of which I had little. A genuine nice person. I am sure he will be missed by so many who knew him. May God bless and keep Don, always.

To those who loved and cherished Don I send my prayers. I last saw him some 10 plus years ago at Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City. We caught up a bit. I was unaware of his work in behalf of Make-A-Wish, but then we know so little about good works by good people.
I believe the first time I met Don and Ron was on the ball fields at Wings Park around 1958 or so. They were keen on competition and I always remember thinking I wished I could move as smoothly as they did.
God Bless Don and may he keep them in the Fairway.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Don's passing. But during this time of grief fond memories resurface. We especially enjoyed our fall trips with Don and Deb to Back Bone Park to see the brillient colors. These trips would always end with Don taking us to Prairie du Chein, Wis. for a Pete's Hamburger.
Also enjoyed numerous rounds of golf with Don, Deb, and Ben. Don was always able to get into Ben's head so that Ben could not beat him.
We will miss you Don, but you are now in a place where your drives will always be straight and long and you will sink every putt.

Very saddened to hear about Don. We were fortunate to have Don as our realtor and friend. We have many fond memories golfing with Don an Deb and going to the Hardee's Golf Classic! Thinking about you Deb, Heather and Ben.
