Lucille Sohn, 80, was called home to heaven on June 24, 2007, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, from pulmonary fibrosis. She was born July 30, 1926, in Poy Sippi, Wisconsin to Carl Martin Timm and Lona (Manske) Timm. Lucille was baptized August 22, 1926, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Auroraville, Wisconsin by Rev. Walter Beltz. She was confirmed on September 3, 1939, at Immanuel Lutheran by Rev. Martin Strasen, with Psalm 103:13 as her confirmation verse. She attended grades 1-7 at Immanuel Lutheran School, attended public school at Auroraville for grade 8 and graduated from high school in Berlin, Wisconsin on June 1, 1944. Lucille attended Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois from 1944-1946, and graduated from Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa, June 3, 1968, with a BA degree. Lucille taught primary grades at Zion Lutheran School, Paullina, Iowa for 15 years, and then Paullina public school for 2 ½ yrs. She organized and taught at Little Lambs Preschool, Algona, IA, and later taught two years at St. Paul Preschool in Ankeny, Iowa.
Lucille married Walter William Koester, June 26, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Auroraville, WI. After suffering from cancer for 2 years, Walter entered glory on April 24, 1956. From this union there are two sons, John Mark Koester born October 11, 1950, Primghar, IA and Paul Steven Koester born October 10, 1952, Primghar, IA. She married Paul Henry Sohn on January 1, 1971, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona, IA., becoming step-mother to his seven children.
She served on the Board of Directors of Bethesda Lutheran Home in Watertown, Wisconsin from 1978 to 1987. She was on the executive committee for 5 years and was secretary for the board from 1985-1987. She was active in Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She served on a number of boards and committees and taught Sunday School and midweek in Paullina, Algona and Ankeny.
She is survived by her husband Paul H. Sohn, of Ankeny, sons John (Lynn) Koester of Ankeny. Paul (Dawn) Koester of San Antonio, Tx., seven step-children, Loretta (Brian) Katt, Conroe, Tx, Kathleen (Dennis) Breidert, Arvada, Co, Paul L. Sohn, Hiawassee, Ga, Julie (Alan) Garner, Lake Havasu City, Az, James Sohn, Des Moines, Ia, Leila (Rick) Webb, Stafford Springs, Ct., and David (Terry) Sohn, Orange, Ca., 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 17 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren, three sisters, Mabel (John) Gimbel, Sun City, Az, Lorraine Zastrow, Lomira, Wi., Joanne Zabel, Berlin, Wi., and one brother, Hubert (Evelyn) Timm, Berlin, Wi.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ankeny, Iowa. Burial will take place in Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina, Ia. at 6:00 p.m. Visitation with family present will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to mission projects to benefit children.
