Alberta H. Hill, 99, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at the Albia Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2013, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with the Rosary recited at 6 p.m., Sunday, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Alberta was born May 25, 1913, and was the fourth of seven children of Henry J. and Lena Guyot of Perryville, Missouri.
She married William A. Hill on May 27, 1935. Bert and Bill moved often, living in many cities including St. Louis, Missouri, Akron, Ohio, and finally settling in Des Moines in 1948.
In 1951, Alberta began working for Elko Photo Products Co. She held various positions, retiring in 1975 as Manager of the Graphic Arts Department.
Alberta enjoyed traveling many places in her retirement, but always found the time to visit Colorado and Washington State. In between her travels, she had 22,000 hours of volunteering at St. Vincent’s Store, Bishop Drumm Home, and the gift shop at Mercy Hospital.
Alberta was also a member of All Saints Catholic Church, the Altar & Rosary Society, Mercy Guild, and the American Business Women’s Association.
In 1965, Bert’s husband and love of her life, Bill, passed away of cancer. She is also preceded in death by her son, Billy Hill; granddaughter, Laura Lee (Hill) Bates; grandson, Jason Guthre; and great-great-granddaughter, Natalie Sandness. Alberta is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann (Hill) Rush and husband Pat, of Melrose, Iowa, and Mickey (Hill) Guthrie and husband Jack, of Bainbridge Island, Washington; sister, Rita Balsman of Perryville, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Karen (Wadle) Hill of Parker, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Such a wonderful friend to my grandmother Barbara Black. I have enjoyed many stories about Alberta over the years and my grandma is so blessed to have known her. May her journey with God be ever joyful.
