Shirley Jean Shortt, 63, died June 24, 2007 of cancer in the care of Iowa City Hospice at the Solon Care Center in Solon, Iowa.
Shirley was born to William and Flossie Logan near Corydon, Iowa in 1943. She attended Humeston School and graduated from Carlisle High School. Shirley married Roy Shortt January 18, 1963 and lived in the Mitchellville, Truro, and Runnells areas. After his death, she lived in Altoona and Wildwood, FL. She worked for Polk County Juvenile Home, Southeast Polk School District and then retired from Iowa Methodist Medical Center/Lutheran Hospital. During her life, Shirley attended Woodland Hills Church of Christ, Wildwood Florida Baptist Church and West Branch United Methodist Church. She enjoyed all types of music but loved to attend Bluegrass Festivals in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and Florida.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Roy (Mary) of Waterloo, IA, Robert (DeAnn) of West Liberty, IA and Roger (Staci) of Winterset, IA; her grandchildren, Laura, Matthew, Chelsee, Amber, Branden, Ben, Eric and Evan; her sister, Maxine (Steve) Mealey of Indianola; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, mother and father, two brothers, William and Richard and her sister, Mary.
Shirley’s funeral is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. with burial at Altoona Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa City Hospice or the West Branch United Methodist Church.
