Richard Wayne Larson, 80, of West Des Moines, died at Mercy Hospice in Johnston on December 26, 2012, after a long battle with Alzheimers.

Richard graduated from East High School in 1951, and from Drake University in 1955. Upon graduation from college, Richard entered the United States Air Force and found his passion for being a pilot. After active duty, he joined the Iowa Air National Guard and retired from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel.

In 1983, Richard retired from Central Life Assurance company, where he was an Officer in Internal Auditing.

Richard is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Christine (Jim) Romar, Jeanne (Tim) Nichol, and Susan (John) Malloy; 13 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren..

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Burial of his cremated remains will follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Association in Richard's name.
