Riddia Mae Osborne, 89, passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, December 23, 2012.

Riddia was born December 4, 1923, in Des Moines, to James and Bessie (Veach) Stewart. She was raised in rural Indianola. She lived for a number of years in Anthon, Iowa, and later in the rural New Hampton area, before moving to Des Moines in 1971.

Riddia had varied interests and talents. One of her first jobs was as a bullet inspector at the Des Moines Ordnance Plant during WWII. She was a farmer and raised livestock. Riddia was a chef and for a time, a survey motivator at SouthRidge. She was very talented at arts and crafts, including sewing quilts and embroidery. She was a caring mother and a giving person. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

A memorial service will be held in the spring, after which Riddia will be laid to rest with her mother in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Riddia is survived by her children, Jim, Dick, Steve, John, Sandra, and Jerry; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and a daughter.
