Julia Hutchens

Julia Irene Hutchens, 87, passed away at her home Friday, December 21, 2012.

Julia was born June 12, 1925, in Perry, Iowa, to Howard and Gladys Finley. She graduated from Perry High School in 1943, and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where she worked for United Airlines. During WWII, she worked for the U.S. Navy in Rhode Island making tracer bullets. She later worked for Iowa Paper Box, Howard Orth at Midwest Visual, and the Grace Ransom Tea Room. Julia then moved to the Des Moines area in 1946 and worked for Northwestern Bell, and retired after 16 years. Julia was a member of Capital City Baptist Church.

Julia is survived by her sons, Richard Hutchens, and Tracy (Becky) Hutchens; brother, Howard Finley, Jr.; and two grandchildren, Michael Hutchens and Jessica Shanahan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harley Richard Hutchens, and her grandson, Daniel Hutchens.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Friday, at the funeral home.
