Roy Edward Kimbley, 65, of Altoona, died Friday, December 21.
Roy was born August 9, 1947 to Walter and Jessie Kimbley in Des Moines. He graduated from East High in 1965 and joined the Army and Iowa National Guard where he was a Military Police officer.
Roy spent most of his life in law enforcement working for several small towns like Colfax, where he was the Chief and Coon Rapids. He was also a Polk County Deputy Sherriff. He earned a Silver Star for Bravery for saving the life of an officer. He owned his own Escort business doing funeral and over the road escorts. Before his health deteriorated, he was traveling all over the country delivering parts of the new wind generators.
His family, especially his three grandsons, kept him busy! Whether they were on the Soccer or Football field or on the Basketball court, he was there to cheer them on. His daughter was his caretaker to the end. He left many friends and acquaintances. Where ever he went, he knew someone.
He was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church, Baldwin Patterson #274 American Legion(Past Commander), BSA Order of the Arrow National Honor Society, Boy Scouts of America, American Federation of Police, and a 30+ year volunteer and instructor with the American Red Cross and Governor liaison for Disaster Services.
Roy is survived by his daughter Eliz(Robert) Rockwell of Runnells, a sister Francis(Tom) Wells of Hurst, TX, 3 grandsons Phillip, Christopher, and Zachary Rockwell of Runnells, as well as several nieces and nephews that loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard(Dick) Kimbley.
Visitation services - Thursday, December 27 from 5-8pm at Hamilton’s Funeral Home. Services to celebrate his life will be Friday, December 28 at 1pm Simpson United Methodist Church, Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family and will be donated to Roy’s favorite charities.
