Elizabeth “Betty” Whitfield passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at her home. Betty was born on July 24, 1936, in Wichita, Kansas, to Ellen and Thomas Walsh, Irish immigrants.
Betty was married to Charles on September 3, 1955, at St. Joseph’s Church in Wichita, Kansas.
Family will greet friends from 4:00 to 700 p.m., on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at Christ the King Catholic Church, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, at the church. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Betty is survived by her husband Charles; her children, Joyce (Ron) Pentico, Paul Whitfield, Ann (Tom) Prymek, Susan (Paul) Roth, and Mark (Mary) Whitfield; her grandchildren, Michelle (Kent), Emily, Aaron (Aly), Adam, Hilary, Hailey, Casey, Kelly, Connor, Molly, and Dylan; great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Christina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her nine brothers and sisters: Thomas, James, Jack, Eileen, Margaret, Kathleen, Marty, and Pat; and her son, John.
Memorial contributions will be directed by the family.

Chuck, I am so sorry to hear about Betty's passing. She was such a special lady and I know you will miss her greatly. I enjoyed Betty very much when we worked together at Housby Mack. I hope all your wonderful memories with her help to ease your pain. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Whitfield family ,
Your family here was so shocked and saddened to hear of Aunt Betty's passing . We always enjoyed visiting with her. I will never forget she and Uncle Chuck coming to watch our daughter when she performed at one of the West Des Moines high school. We got a chance that weekend to have a nice visit. She was always happy with a HUGE smile for everyone, and extremely proud of her family.

Dear Whitfield family,
Aunt Betty is going to be sorely missed. She was such a dear woman, whom always made me feel at home, when I visited the Iowa family. We shared the experience of moving away from home, and the feelings of homesickness that one never completely gets over even though they have made a home in their new life. If there is a heaven, she is being greeted by John, siblings, and her parents with warm Irish hugs.
Celebrate her life, and remember grief has no timeline or rules.

I am so sorry to learn that we have lost Betty....she was a dear person and a great friend. I have been thinking that I should go see Betty and Chuck for a while now....I will have to wait for heaven now to see her smiling face.....My thoughts and prayers are with all of you...I know you will miss her greatly!! Please try to bask in all of your cherished memories and they will help comfort you.

Ann and Family,
I am deeply saddened to hear of your Mom's/Grandma's passing. She was genuinely a nice person. I always loved seeing her and talking to her. She always had a hug and a smile for me whenever I saw her. I had the opportunity to work with her at the pharmacy years ago and she was one person I always knew would show up for work on time and give 110%. She never complained and was very pleasant. I will miss her. Please reach out to me for anything you need.
