Donald Dean Filby

Donald Dean Filby passed away Friday, December 7, 2012, in Jacksonville, FL, from Pancreatic Cancer.

Don was born on December 16, 1946, in Des Moines, IA, and resided in Urbandale, IA, before retiring to Jacksonville, FL in 1999.

After serving in the Air National Guard, Don was employed by John Deere Works in Ankeny, IA, for 33 years.

Don greatly enjoyed walking on the beach and collecting sharks teeth. He had a passion for music and a unique talent for fixing anything.

The greatest love of his life was his wife and best friend, Karen, as well as his family. Those left to honor his memory are, his wife of forty-six years, Karen; daughter, Deb of Jacksonville, FL; son, Jay (Linda) of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Jake, Nate, and Megan Coady; brothers, Ed (Judy) of Urbandale, IA, and Randy (Gina) of Atlanta, GA; and sister, Marsha (Bill) Harper of Winder, GA.

A celebration of Don's life will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Guana Tolomato Mantanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTMNERR) Education Center, 505 Guana River Road, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082, in loving memory of Don.
