Mary Gilham

Mary Whitaker Gilham, 86, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center.

Mary was born on September 10, 1926, in Des Moines, to Blanche (Bishop) and Harold Whitaker. She married William Gilham on September 8, 1951. Mary was employed by the State of Iowa until her retirement in 1988. She enjoyed music and doing puzzles. Mary was always proud of the fact that she raised two children on her own, and she was a lifetime member of the Professional Musicians and Entertainers Club of Iowa.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Diane Gilham; son, Jerry Gilham; brother, Marvin (Shirley) Whitaker; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Whitaker and June Gilham along with several nieces and nephews

She is preceded in death by her parents; former husband, William; sister, Wilma; and brothers, Wayne and John.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, December 8, 2012, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow in Franklin Township Cemetery.
