Charles Burton Ver Heul, 87, was born November 28, 1925, near Prairie City, Iowa, to Charles and Maggie Ver Heul. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 3, 2012, at Mitchell Village Care Center.

Charles lived in this area all of his life except for a stint in the US Navy during World War II. He returned to the area and farmed with his family until moving to Altoona in 1961. He met and married Patricia Sevier in 1963, and to this union two sons were born: Donald Eugene and Charles Forrest.

Charles was employed by Farmers Elevator Altoona and Bondurant, as well as the Bondurant Farrar School System. He then went to community college and received a certificate and license for becoming a Stationary Engineer, and was employed by Polk County until retirement.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Forrest Ver Heul; sister, Juanita Ver Heul and his son, Donald Ver Heul. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ver Heul, and son, Charles F. Ver Heul.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2012, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be made to Santiago United Methodist Church, or Iowa Hospice in loving memory of Charles.
