Joaquin Joseph Bejarno, 89, was born August 15, 1923, in Fort Dodge, the son of Joaquin Bejarano and Maria (Banderas) Rios. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at his home. A funeral mass will be 10 a.m., Friday, December 7, 2012, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, December 6, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

Joaquin “Joe” loved his country. He was a veteran of WW II and the Normandy landing. Joe was instrumental in the building of our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel. He was a daily example of faith, generosity, and courage to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Joaquin is survived by his children, Christine (Arnie Nagla) Brower, Cathy (Jim) Leaf, Sophia (Scott) Winters, and Anthony (Alesia) Bejarno; daughters-in-law, Deb and Teri Bejarno; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Margaret Rodriquez, Aurora Lumadue, Vincent (Roberta) Bejarano, Patty Iseminger, Raymond (Judy) Rios, and Thomas Rios. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Josephine (Murillo) Bejarno; infant daughter, Mary; sons, David and Vincent; brother, Phillip Bejarno; and sister, Conchita Stroup.
