Darlene Herweh
December 01, 2012
Darlene J. Herweh was born November 24, 1935, to Perl and Bertha Hoover. She was the youngest of 11 children. Darlene was born and raised in Mitchellville and always considered it home. She was united in marriage to Jimmie Herweh on May 27, 1954. Darlene was an accomplished bowler, a love she instilled in her grandson Jimmy, and appeared numerous times on the Jim Zabel show “Let’s Go Bowling.” She was also a talented singer and piano player.
Darlene was the bookkeeper for the Mitchellville Coop for over 30 years, and she was also responsible for the start of the Mitchellville Girls Softball Program, so the girls who were Susie’s age would have something to do in the summer.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Tibben; grandson Jimmy and wife Jennifer Tibben; and granddaughter Katelynn Tibben, who she always called her little angel. Her pride and joy were her great-grandsons, Noah, Jonah, Micah, Michael, and Gabriel. Darlene is also survived by her brother Bill Hoover, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her very special nephew Donnie Goldsberry, who was always so very dear to her.
Darlene passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 1, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie; brothers Howard, Wayne, Lloyd, Dale, Melvin, and Marvin; and her sisters Gladys, Ruth, and Beverly. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 12 p.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2012, also at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Sue, your mom was such a big part of my life growing up. I loved going to your house, listening to her play the piano (and you, too!), watching the candle-making in action, and who can forget the endless hours of cracking black walnuts!! :-)
Her leadership and contribution to the Mitchellvillle softball program was indeed something to keep the girls busy. It was a program that developed us into good friends, competitors, and taught us many life lessons. Without her we may have missed out on these opportunities.
I'm so sorry that I couldn't be there this week but know that my thoughts, prayers, and love have been with you and your family. I loved her like my own.

Sue, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I'll always remember the sing alongs around the piano and the fun we had as kids. Such a fun lady! She'll be missed by all who knew her.

I always thought of Darlene as the Grandmother I never had. She was always loving and giving and always had a kind word for me. I will miss her. My condolences go out to Sue, Jimmy, Katy and the family for their great loss. Just remember she has lots of relatives and friends that greeted her with open hearts when she passed. She is in good company. She is no longer in pain and will always be smiling! God Bless you all. Love you
