William (Bill) Thompson

William “Bill” Thompson, 78, died Monday, June 18, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday June 22, 2007 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Bill was born February 17, 1929 to William and Mabel Thompson in Mt. Ayr. He worked for Des Moines Water Works for over 40 years and was a member of Acanthus Lodge #632 and Des Moines Jaycees. Bill was involved in several businesses at the Iowa State Fair including Tommy’s Bar B Que, hot dog stands, novelty stands, Campground Grocery, and Court Yard Café. He enjoyed going to the cabin at Lake Rathbun and spending time with his family.
Bill is survived by his wife, Norma Thompson; daughters, Sandy Thompson and Pam (Mike) Meyer; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Craig Thompson; sister, Eileen Bennett; and brothers, Avol, Jerald, Bobby, and Donald Thompson.
Visitation will be held 2-8 p.m. with family present 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2007 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Plant The Trees at Des Moines Water Works or Iowa Hospice.
