Delbert DwaineWoody passed away peacefully Friday, November 30, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Per his wishes, there will be no service at this time.
Delbert was born February 26, 1926, at Rockwell City, Iowa. He served his country from 1944 to 1946 with Squadron A, 462nd Army Air Force, as a Technician Fifth Grade, 88th Signal Company, 88th Infantry Division, as a radio operator. He received the Army of Occupation Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Upon returning from service, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Keller, in Des Moines on August 26, 1947. He and Dorothy moved to Norwalk in 1960, and were the first and the oldest remaining residents on the block. Delbert drove a truck for and would eventually retire from MacAninch Corporation. He belonged to Teamsters Local 90.

Delbert lived life to the fullest, never doing anything half-way. He gave meaning to the phrase, “I did it my way.” Delbert loved pecan pie and Pepsi. He always had a hobby. He was a Hawkeye fan, loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, motor cycle riding, horses, and four-wheeling. He loved to drive, and had too many cars to count throughout his life time. Delbert was an avid bowler and belonged to several associations and leagues. His passion in life was his dogs. Throughout the years he and Dorothy traveled extensively showing primarily American Staffordshire Terriers, although like the cars, he won numerous awards for many breeds.

Delbert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy, of Regency Care, Norwalk, niece, Kay Willey, of New Market, Ia., great-niece, Casey Riedel and family of Bedford, Ia., great-nephews; Scott Bebout and family of New Market, Ia., Todd Strange and family of Blanchard, Ia., Jasen Bebout and family of Ricketts, Ia., and Dusty Bebout and family of Gravity, Ia., fifteen great-great nieces and nephews; family friends, Mike and Kristine Meyer, of Norwalk; and his beloved dog, Elk.
