Lewis Cory

Lewis Cory, 63, died Friday, November 30, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 216 N. Washington Avenue in Elkhart, Iowa, on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 4, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with a short vigil service at 5 p.m. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Farrar, Iowa.

Lew was born May 29, 1949, in Elkhart, Iowa, to Pearl and Allen Cory. He graduated from North Polk High School and served in the U.S. Army. He married Karen Haaland in 1969, and worked for Look Magazine. After publication ceased, Lew, along with a group of employees from Look, founded Downe Computer Services in 1972. Downe became Charter Data Services and then CDS as it is known today. Lew was a Sr. Conversion Consultant until his retirement.

In his free time, Lew belonged to various organizations including; Knights of Columbus as a 4th degree Knight; Phi Kappa Theta, St. Mel’s Church, Rechurch, and St. Mary’s.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen; son, Sean (Teri) and their children Emily, Nick, and Alex; son, Ryan (Joy) and their children Saber, Keura, and Capri; son, Ian (Mindy) and their son, Elijah; his brothers, Bob (Loujean), Jim (Barb), and Jerry (Sandy) Cory; and sister, Helen (Norm) Burnett. Lew was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence “Buck” and Michael Cory, and sisters, Darlene Hamm and Patricia Harrison.
