Service Details
Bobby Dick, 89, of Des Moines died peacefully at the Kavanagh House on 56th Street on November 21, 2012. Bob was born January 8, 1923.
He is survived by his wife Jessie; his children Cheryl (Harold) Rexroat, Barbara (Mike) Last, Connie Sater, Anita (Russ) Morris, Bobby (Dawn) Dick, Jr.; sisters Wanda McDonald and Debra Dick; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Robert retired as a DJ at KWKY and worked for over fifty years in the entertainment industry.
A visitation will be held 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m., on Monday, November 26, 2012, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. After the visitation, the funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., with burial following at Glendale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Central Iowa.

On a hot summer day, you walked across the street and into our lives. A quiet but oh so funny man. I knew we wanted to be your friends, and then all to soon you were taken. My deepest condolences go out to your entire family. I grew up knowing your father/grandfather as the patriarch of this huge family (so different from my own) that had so much love and respect for him. He was a very loving man, who adored his family so much--it was so apparent. I will miss seeing his great big smile at the family functions I attend, but I know his presence will be felt by everyone. Rest in Peace.

The familiar voice for many years at KWKY, the one I grew to know without knowing the man. Bob was a pioneer in the early years of radio throughout the mid-west. His love of country western music led to playing and producing the WHO show of Smokey Smith.
As a small blip on the radar of Bob I became a friend of the family and put a face with the voice I'd known for so long. A man of many accomplishments, a man unafraid to speak exactly what was on his mind, you will be missed by many. May your rest be peaceful in the loving arms of the father...

Grandpa, what a wonderful, honorable man you were during your time here with your family! A man I have much respect for in so many ways. Some things I've learned from my Grandpa:
*smiley face art drawn on your hands is priceless
*enjoy your yogurt-from beginning to end,scrape every last bit :)
*beware of the mouse in the house who eats your cheese
*it's very important to pump your brakes when stopping
*Playing "Going to Kansas City" is required for road trips
*Pennies can be squashed flat when placed on railroad tracks before the train rolls through :)
*capture your family with photos or video in everyday moments
*you can never stay long enough..."where you going?you just got here!"
*Music makes your heart smile
*Be true to yourself and never apologize for being you
*most important*cherish your loved ones. My Grandpa was the best example of what a family man is. There for family through thick and thin. He was my rock. I will miss him beyond all words. Gone from my sight but never from my heart. Thank you for all the wonderful memories, love, support and guidance.

It was a honor and a pleasure to work with Bobby for over 27 years at KWKY. He is one of the nicest guys a person could ever know! A really Great guy! He will be missed!
