Service Details
Dwight W. (Bill) Barton went to his heavenly home on November 21, 2012. Services will be held on Tuesday, November 27, at 11:00 A.M., at his church, Covenant Presbyterian, 1025 28th Street in West Des Moines. Visitation will be held Monday, November 26, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines, Iowa.
Dwight (Bill) was born on April 18, 1934, to parents Morris and Iva Barton in Redfield, Iowa. He graduated from Des Moines Technical, and joined the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict in 1954. After his enlistment he attended Iowa State University. He worked for Genex until his retirement. He married Lynne Wilson in 1962, and together they raised their family in Davenport and Des Moines, Iowa.
Bill belonged to Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Greeters Unit, Gnemeth Lodge #577 in West Des Moines, Iowa, and The American Welding Science and Technology Society. Bill, (as he was known) was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan, and greatly enjoyed woodworking, golfing, and singing with his wonderful tenor voice.
He will be tremendously missed by his sons, Kyle (Maureen), Kelly (Trisha); his wife, Lynne; grandchildren, Alex and Jacob; sister, Lavonne Nicodemus; brother, Leon (Jo) Barton; and brother-in law, Manfred Sweet. A son, Patrick Owen preceded him in death.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.

My deepest sympathy to your family. I work in the canteen at the Veterans Home and enjoyed waiting on Bill very much. Oh how he loved his ice cream! We were shocked and saddened to learn of his passing and will miss seeing his bright smile. May you find peace and comfort knowing he is now with God.

I never really knew Mr. Barton, but he was a veteran, an Iowa Stater, and his sons Kelly and Kyle are fine men whom I am proud to count as friends. He was a great man. He will be missed.

In reading recent obituaries I came across that of your loved one, and I would like to express my condolences. I too loss someone very dear to me, and understand how painful and difficult it can be to deal with. So my purpose in writing is to share some encouraging bible thoughts that help me through these trying times. Only through God's Word the Bible can we find real comfort. In fact it calls God the, "Father of Tender Mercies and the God of all Comfort." (2Corinthians 1:3,4) Also note Jesus words of comfort spoken to Martha, who just lost her brother, in John 11:23-25, "Your brother will rise, I am the resurrection and the life, he that exercises faith in me even though he dies, will come to life." What a wonderful promise! I hope these verses help some.
