Gwendolyn Rummans, of Rio Rico, Arizona, formerly of Des Moines, passed away Friday June 15, 2007. Funeral Services will be at Hamilton’s Funeral Home 605 Lyon Street at 2:30 P.M. Friday, June 22, 2007 with burial at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 P.M. at the funeral home.
She was born in Carlisle, Iowa to Joseph M. Dulin and Elnora (Overton) Dulin. She graduated from high school in Trenton, Missouri, in 1934.
Gwendolyn was the former owner of the Sevastopol Café, and B&B Grocery, Meat & Deli. She was Sunday School Superintendent for many years at Jordan Methodist Church. She taught Adult Education sewing classes at Lincoln High School, and met her second husband, Dale F. Rummans at evening dance classes at East High School. She was always active in her children lives, by being involved with Boy Scouts, South Des Moines Little League, and PTA.
Gwendolyn loved art and crafts. She was proficient in landscape & animal paintings, china painting, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, and quilting. She enjoyed outings to the casino and doing crossword puzzles daily.
Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; her first husband J. Archie Brooks, Sr.; her son Donald Lee “Pete” Brooks; her son-in-law D. Frank Kooyman; and her grandson James Donald “Jamey” Brooks.
Gwendolyn is survived by her loving husband of nearly 44 years, Dale F. Rummans; her daughter Jane Ann Kooyman; her sons John A. Brooks (Becky), Charles J. Brooks, and J. Archie Brooks Jr. (Dixie); twelve grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter. She also leaves behind her three little dogs that she loved so much, Pinon, Nika and Poncho.
