Helen Rose Lingle, of Lucas, Iowa, daughter of Frank Russell Lingle and Rose Lorraine Logsdon, was born on January 19, 1933, in Osceola, Iowa, and passed away on November 18, 2012, in West Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 79.

Helen attended school in Woodburn and Des Moines. She spent much of her time with her father and worked beside him in her younger years. She moved to Des Moines and began work for Mr. Shadur at the Iowa Box Company, where she made many lifelong friends. She married Mervin A. Briggs in Tecumseh, Nebraska, on July 18, 1966, and they made their home in Lucas for 35 years.

Helen enjoyed world news, political discussions, WWII history, fishing in the late night and early morning hours, woodworking, painting, gardening, baking, and making holiday candies. She was a lifelong Democrat and supporter of civil rights. Helen was a woman of strong opinion and persistent in her goals and desires. Her gruff personality hid a very sensitive soul who sought love and deep friendship. Her grandchildren were the capping joy of her life.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents, Joseph Elmer Lingle and Carrie Miller, and Alfred Logsdon and Melissa Ray; her siblings Russell, Sharron, Ronald Robert, Dixie Lee Forsythe, William, Donna Cotton Green, Carol See McGraw, and Dorris Boggs. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Nicki Convery) Briggs, and Toni (Ray) Ford; grandchildren Kaylee Rena, Jacob Andrew, and Jaiden Anne Briggs of Des Moines; sisters, Bettie Robinson of LeRoy, Jimmie (William) Nolan of Chariton, Judy Bucholz Cordes of MN, Kathay (Craig) Hoyt of Davis City; and brothers, Robert (Lois) of Des Moines, Frank Boedeker of Goose Creek, SC; and many nieces and nephews.

A Commemoration of Teaching will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Lucas, Iowa, on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., with a dinner to follow at the Lucas fire station. Final resting place will be Goshen Cemetery.
