Florence Boyd

Florence Boyd, 86, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Taylor House Hospice.

Florence was born March 30, 1926, in Zookspur, Iowa. She lived most of her life in the Des Moines area. She worked as the supervisor of the mail department for Meredith Corporation for 18 years until her retirement in 1987. She enjoyed gardening and caring for her yard. She was a wonderful cook, with chicken and noodles being her specialty.

Florence is survived by her son, Mike (Lois) Boyd; niece, Kellie (Rick) Beyer; nephew, Donnie Jones; niece, Susie Jones; sister-in-law, Linda Jones; great-nieces and -nephews who called her Grandma, Kaila (John) Nickelson, Tanner Rowland, Abigail Rowland, Garrett Jones, and Zachary Jones; great-great-nephew, Brody Nickelson; and uncle, Freddie Stiles.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Nora Aretta Jones; brother, Gary Jones; and husbands, Clifford Boyd and Don Bates.

Funeral services will be at 1p.m., Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, with a visitation beginning at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
