Charles Ray Dunlap, 56, died at home, Sunday, June 17, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Charles was born November 22, 1950 in Chariton, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. Charles worked for MidAmerican Energy since 1974. He was an avid music lover, in particular, country music. Charles also loved sports, especially Drake football and basketball. Charles coached North Des Moines Girls Softball for 18 years and he was president for three years. He was a member of First Federated Church and Electrical Worker’s Local #499. Charles helped serve Wednesday night meals at his church. In recent years, he enjoyed spending time at Leisure Lake, Missouri.
Charles is survived by his children, Paige Cathleen Dunlap (David) Southwick, Beka JoAnn (Leane Hartney) Dunlap and Daniel Ray Dunlap; and their mother, Nan Dunlap; two sisters, Beverly (Dwayne) Scott and Reverend Barbara (Russ) Dunlap-Wolfe; brother, Larry (Dana) Dunlap and their children, Lynette Carr and Darcy Howell; three grandchildren, Skyla, Jesse and Journey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Dale and Rosetta Dunlap; his grandparents; and two nieces, Kristen Rose Kinley and Teresa Scott.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Drake Athletic Club or First Federated Church.
