Stanley Gullord, 90, entered into eternal rest on November 16, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown, IA.

Stanley was born to Theodore and Regina Gullord on March 28, 1922 in Bricelyn, Minnesota. Stan was one of ten children. After he graduated from high school, he entered into the US Army and served as a Sergeant during World War II in Germany, where he was assigned to the 12th Armored Division Hellcats, 92nd Calvary Recon Mechanized Squadron. In 1951, he married Betty J. Willford, his wife of 57 years. They had four children and moved to Des Moines in 1966. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 34 years where he began his career as a telegraph operator and retired as a communications supervisor.

Stan enjoyed bowling, golfing and the Cubs. He had a season ticket for the Iowa Cubs for decades. No matter what was going on, he found time to watch or listen to the Cubs games. He was their #1 fan! He joined the Southgate Masonic Lodge in 1974 and held many offices, including Worshipful Master. Stan was very true to his faith and was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd congregation where he was the official “Hugger”. He took pleasure in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Stan always enjoyed making people happy and his smile and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Debra (Thomas) Ostrem; sons, Steven (Susan) Gullord and Gregory (Roxanne) Gullord; his grandchildren, Jaime (Fernando) Mosqueda, Sarah Ostrem, Christina Gullord, Jennifer Ostrem, Brett (Stephanie) Gullord, Matthew Ostrem and Shelley Gullord; two great grandchildren, Jaden and Alexander Mosqueda; two sisters, Gladys and Rosalyn; cousins, nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty and daughter, Sandi, who were waiting for his arrival in Heaven.

Visitation will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 3820 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, on Sunday, November 18, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held at 4 p.m. during the visitation. His funeral service will also be held at the church on Monday, November 19th at 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, the Iowa Veteran’s Home or the Southgate Masonic Lodge.
