Vernon A. Lawrence

Vernon Lawrence, Sr., 65, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born May 25, 1947, in Des Moines, to Lenna and Vernon Lawrence.

Vern “Son” is reunited with his loving wife of 44 years, Shirley, they are now together forever. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, attending family gatherings, and helping others.

Vern is survived by his sons, Vern, Jr. (Lori), Todd (Michelle), and Scott (Paula); many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his two very special sisters, Judy (Stan) Gourd and Joyce Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, and his parents.

Funeral services will be 12 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Oralabor Cemetery in Ankeny. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Vern.
