Margaret Anne Patterson

Margaret Anne Patterson, 86, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012, at Trinity Center at Luther Park.

Margaret was born July 29, 1926, in Des Moines, to Henry and Arlie Smith. She graduated from East High School in 1944, and married George Patterson on February 28, 1945. Margaret and George enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. She was a member of Easton Place United Methodist Church, Lay Street Entertainers, and the Des Moines Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Margaret enjoyed volunteering at Valley View Village, the Botanical Center, the election polling booths, and reading to students in the Des Moines Public Schools. Margaret loved to crochet and travel with her group of “Merry Widows.”

Margaret is survived by her sons, Steven (Debra) Patterson and Craig Patterson; grandchildren, Todd (Errin) Patterson, Amy (Matt) Van Dyke, Brooke (Spencer) Achenbach, and Nicholas (Emily) Patterson; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George and grandson Brian.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Easton Place United Methodist Church, 2412 Easton Blvd.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to her church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
