Edna Mae (Nagel) Bjork died on November 3, 2012, at the age of 88. She was born on June 20, 1924, to Charles and Meta Nagel in Bismarck, ND. She grew up on a dairy farm north of Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1941. She worked as a secretary for the North Dakota State Farmers Union in Jamestown, ND, for several years. She married Maynard Bjork on September 4, 1950, and was the mother of four daughters. The family lived in Wahpeton, ND, Anaconda, MT, Menomonie, WI, Norwalk, IA, West Des Moines and Clive, IA. Edna spent most of her years in Norwalk raising her daughters, Linda, Judy, Sandy and Betty. She worked as a church secretary at New Life Lutheran Church of which she was a charter member, and at the Norwalk Newspaper. Edna was a great cook, an expert seamstress, and lately enjoyed making quilts. She made a quilt for each daughter and grandchild as well as quilting with the ladies at church for Lutheran World Relief. Edna also enjoyed doing counted cross-stitch and loved to travel with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Maynard; her daughters, Linda (Paul) Rye of Urbandale, IA, Judy (Bruce) Barnes of Cedar Rapids, IA, Sandy (Charlie) Scavo of West Des Moines, IA, and Betty (Terry) Kochaver of Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren, Marcia (Jeremy) Ziemer of Ann Arbor, MI, Andy (Amanda) Rye of Ankeny, IA, Brian Rye of Urbandale, Sara (Bob) Meisterling of Cedar Rapids, Brett Barnes (Heather Quick) of Cedar Rapids, and Kelsey and Nicole Scavo of West Des Moines; great-grandchildren, Kimberlee, Kaelynn and Dyllan Rye of Ankeny, IA; brothers, Robert (Myra) Nagel of Montpelier, ND, and Richard (Helen) Nagel of Bismarck, ND; sisters-in-law, Helen Bjork of Marquette, MI, and Lyla Swanson of Cannon Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Kenneth Nagel and Frances Smith.

Memorial services will be held at New Life Lutheran Church in Norwalk on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will precede the services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Norwalk Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Edna’s memory to New Life Lutheran Church.
