Jake was born on Feb 7, 1990 in Des Moines. He was a junior at Scavo High School. Jake loved his family and friends, reading, fishing, hunting and playing his guitar.
He shot his first deer at age 12 on his beloved Grandpa Shorty’s land. His dad and uncles were his hunting buddies and he enjoyed being a part of them. He loved fishing on Grandpa’s lake and on Lake Superior. Lake Superior was a favorite place for him and he loved to sit on the rocks and write and chat with other people he met.
Jake was talented in music, and taught himself how to play the guitar. He preformed in a band at his school called Room 122. He loved rock and roll and had just started a collection of vintage record albums.
Jake was a quiet guy who was humble about his accomplishments. He loved to read and loved a good discussion on history or politics. He also loved writing poetry and song lyrics. He was a die-hard Democrat and was very pleased with how the recent election had turned out. He loved the History channel, but for laughs he loved the movies Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles and Fargo.
Besides his parents and sister Alex, he is survived by Grandmothers Anna Manning of Des Moines and Alice Anderson of Kellogg and Uncles Mel Manning, of Otley, Mike and Cindra Manning of Des Moines, Aunts Paula and Joel Van Roekel of Harvey, Marcia and Bruce Kading of Minneapolis, and Jill Anderson of Des Moines.
