Service Details

Richard Sexton, 43, passed away at his home Sunday, October 28, 2012.

Richard was born May 24, 1969, in Des Moines, to Dennis Russell Sexton and Florence Elaine (Chase) Meyers. He lived in Montana, at which time he worked in a rock quarry. He enjoyed Montana but eventually moved back to the Des Moines area to be near family. Richard was incredibly artistic; he enjoyed drawing and was a beautiful woodcarver. He never needed a pattern, he would just look at something and be able to carve it. No matter what adversity Richard faced throughout his life, he would rise above it. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a natural survivor, and for his wonderful sense of humor, honesty, and his giving heart.

Richard is survived by his wife, Johneene; step-daughter, Odessa Luna; sisters, Cora (Gary) Grannan and Renotta Signs; step-sister, Brenda Wilson; nephews, Daniel Small, Justice and Samuel Grannan, and George Signs; nieces, Jessica Small, Britni and Savannah Grannan, and Elaine, Leia, and Olivia Signs; great-niece, Kylie Signs; mother-in-law, Sandra Dawley; sister-in-law, Jennifer Salgado; brother-in-law, David Salgado; and a host of other extended relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 5 p.m., Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
