Betty Jane Watts

Betty Jane Watts, 88, died peacefully Monday, October 22, 2012, at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines. Graveside services will be Thursday, October 25, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Masonic Cemetery.

Betty was born on April 17, 1924, to Tilman and Dolly (Brockman) Hartzer in Des Moines, Iowa. She joined the United States Navy as a nurse and was stationed in San Diego, CA, during WWII. Betty met her husband, Dr. Charles Watts, Jr., in Des Moines, shortly after being discharged from the Navy. They shared 65 wonderful years together until his death on October 11, 2012.

A very active lady, Betty had many talents and interests. She assisted her husband in his podiatry practice as the nurse and office manager. After his retirement from his practice, Betty worked part-time at Younkers. She was an avid golfer, loved cats, shopping for a good deal, and volunteering. She volunteered as a Gray Lady at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital,; and for Methodist Hospital, where she logged over 5,000 hours. She was also previously active in PTA, garden club, and as a model.

Betty is survived by her son, Greg and his wife Datha of Houston, TX; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; grandparents; aunts and uncles.
