Walter L. "Pops" Olin, Jr.

Walter L. Olin, Jr., 65, passed away at his home Sunday, October 21, 2012.

Walter was born March 9, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, to Walter L. Olin, Sr., and Marcel Harnisch. Walter’s mother passed away when he was very young, and his sister, Dorothy Pobst, graciously stepped in to raise both him and his sister, Cheryl. After graduating from North High School, he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country for 25 years, retiring as a Captain. Walter enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, his cat Spookie, and going to Toads Tavern to have a drink with his friends. He was also an avid Bears Fan.

Walter is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Debra; children, Walter (Staci) Olin, III, Shayne (Melanie) Olin, Casey (Cassee) Olin, and Cheyenne (Scott) Davis; step-daughters, Debra Palmer and Tonya (Josh) Richards; sister, Cheryl (Wayne) Jarvis; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronald Lee Belknap, and his beloved sister, Dorothy.

The family will greet friends beginning at 9 a.m., Thursday, October 25, 2012, with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
