Hal E. Finney, 48, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, October 14, 2012, at his home in Des Moines. He was born November 21, 1963, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Emery and Helen Finney.
Hal graduated from West High School in 1981, and spent 12 years in the Army Reserves in Waterloo and Des Moines. He worked for Swift Packing Plant , co-owned a body shop in Des Moines and was currently working for Goodwin Tucker. Hal had a love for cars and drag racing, but above all else he treasured the time spent with his family.
In addition to his parents, Hal is survived by his loving wife, Kristi; sons, Anthony Finney, Michael Hall, and Travis Hall, all of Des Moines; grandchildren, Baylee, Emilee, Evelyn, and Bryson; sister, Lindy (Jim) Kerns of Waterloo; brothers, Gary (Ruth) Finney of Cedar Rapids, and Lonny Finney and Blair (Cindy) Finney, both of Waterloo; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives; and many special friends.
A visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at River’s Edge Christian Church, 1247 Cedar Bend Street, Waterloo, Iowa, with burial to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may also visit with family from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, at the church in Waterloo.

Hal it's been awhile, when I was down the street from you and the other guy at the car lot on Broadway. I was at Casey's. Sorry for your loss you will be very missed.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Hal's death and I would like to express sympathies to all his family and friends at this difficult time. Hal was a respected and valuable member of Goodwin Tucker Group. It was a honor to be able to have worked with. He was one of the kindest techs around!

My thoughts and prayers are with you Uncle Emery and Aunt Helen, Gary, Lonny, Blair, Lindy and his family. I am so sorry I will be unable to attend the funeral as I will be in KC. I have many fond childhood memories of being at your house and playing with my cousins. I miss you all. God bless you.

Kristy and Family: I was totally shocked when I opened the Waterloo Courier and saw Hal's obituary. Hal & I worked together in Medical Records at Covenant Clinic in Waterloo. I always called him "Halfred," and he called me Granny. He could be so soft spoken, yet he was a hoot to be around. We were just sharing some "Hal Tales," last week. I have thought about him and you ,Kristy, since you guys went back to Des Moines, I'll never forget the time you called & asked for "Moufassa." So many wonderful & funny stories, from such a nice guy. It was obvious how much he cared about his wife and family. May you find comfort in the memories, and knowing that he was cared about & loved by so many. R.I.P. Halfred. You will be missed. Granny, Med. Records, Covenant Clinic

Our condolences go out to you, your family and friends for the sudden lose of your love one Hal.
We all enjoyed his frequent visits to repair our machines. He was a delightful person to see because we knew our machines would work when fixed by him. He will be greatly missed. I knew Hal through working at Goodwin Tucker Group for the past five years. He was a great person to be around, bringing not only his intelligence as a technician but also positive vibes in general. Very kind, I never saw him ill-tempered around the office. By working in the invoicing dept, I'll always remember Hal's splendid handwriting.
Another memory of Hal is seeing him every so often at the Starbucks on Merle Hay Road. He told me he goes there each morning to pick up coffee and deliver to his wife at home. What a remarkable man. My sympathy goes out to Hal's family, I am sorry for your loss, may you find strength during this time of sorrow to recollect the happy times shared with Hal.

I have lost a friend. I've known Hal since we were small children.
Hal enjoyed working/racing his Duster as a teenager. Many years ago we would cruise University Ave. in Waterloo on Friday night's. We would look for a other cars to race and enjoyed the fast car environment.
Hal was as his co-workers said..a very soft spoken, kind, patient friend. His parents were like parents too me during my childhood when my parents rarely had time for me. I thank them for that. Hal was a great friend and I shall miss him very much.

I was the parts guy for Hal. Ive only known Hal for a year but he was a great guy to work with. He was always willing to help me out when I had to ask questions. One of the best guys to talk to. Always had a smile on his face. I will truly miss working with him.

I enjoyed working with Hal here at Goodwin Tucker, he was a soft spoken individual with a vast amount of patience, respect and kindness. I will miss seeing him in the morning with his coffee cup and his suttle smile, with a hello to everyone he saw. My condolences to the Finney family, your are in my thoughts and prayers
