Service Details
Robert J. Monroe, 72, passed away Monday, October 15, 2012, at Polk City Nursing and Rehab. He was born May 8, 1940, to Charles and Mary Monroe in Des Moines.
Robert served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1966. He worked at Briggs Printing for over 25 years. Robert enjoyed fishing and hunting and was also a member of an archery club.
Robert is survived by his sisters, Donna (Paul) Westlake, Mary (Robert) Willson, Sheila (Jerry) Jennings, Christy Pulse, all of Des Moines, and Bette (Joseph) Beavers of West Des Moines; as well as 15 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Billy, Rick and Charles Monroe.
The family would like to thank Polk City Nursing and Rehab for their care and compassion for Robert during his time there.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home, with a vigil service beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa in loving memory of Robert.

My heart is sad for each of you for the loss of your brother Bob. He was such a good man and the girls thought the world of him. This sad time is also a joyous time for Bobby because he isn't suffering any longer and is with his family in heaven. I talked with Cindy at the cemetary the other day (I do that whenever I go there) and told her that her Uncle Bobby would be coming to heaven and to greet him and show him the ropes when he gets there. I know she will.
God bless each of you and I pray that you find peace, acceptance and solace in knowing that Bob is happier now than he has ever been in this life. You know he is there with his Mom and Dad and his brothers and of course Cindy, and he will be there waiting for you when it is your time to go home.
