Service Details

Ada Jean Cox, 91, passed away from this life into the arms of Our Lord on October 15, 2012, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, after a long and wonderful life.

Born on December 20, 1920, in Jefferson, IA, to Meno and Sophia Cirksena, Ada graduated from Bedford High School in 1940. She moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, in 1943, and while working at the Ft. Francis Warren Army Base met the love of her life, Owen C. Cox. They were married in 1952 and made their home in Wilmington, IL. In 1959, they moved to Southern California where they raised their family. In 2008, Ada and Owen moved to Des Moines to be near their daughter, Cheryl and son-in-law, Ron.

Ada was a devoted Christian who raised her children to follow the teachings of the Bible and shared her faith and love of the Lord with others. While living in California she was an active member of Central Christian Church, and after moving to Iowa became a member of New Hope Assembly of God in Urbandale.

Ada enjoyed reading her Bible daily, being a homemaker (Jello salads were a specialty), and after the children left home, shopping for clothes and shoes.

Ada is survived by her children, Cheryl (Ron) Davidson of Clive, IA, and Wende (Curtis) Holtzen of Brea, CA; grandchildren, Ryan Cox and Roman Holtzen; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Owen Cox; parents, Meno and Sophia Cirksena; three brothers, four sisters, and her son, Gregg Alan Cox.

Graveside services will be Friday, October 19, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at Glendale Cemetery. The family will meet at the cemetery gates and proceed to the gravesite. A luncheon will follow at New Hope Assembly of God Church.

Memorial contributions may be directed to New Hope Assembly of God Church in Urbandale, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
