William Chaney, 82, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston. He was born April 16, 1930, in Akron, Colorado.
Bill served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps until his honorable discharge in 1952. He was a member of Grace Church in Des Moines for over 20 years, and loved serving his church family as a deacon and usher. Bill was a longtime rodeo fan. In his younger years he rode broncos and bulls and loved his horses. He enjoyed fishing, camping, square dancing, and spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family.
Bill is survived by his children, Billie Beckley, Russell Chaney, Michael Chaney, and Teresa Evensen; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Linda Poteete; his brother, Carl Chaney; and many other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Muriel, in 1991, and his second wife, Judy, in 2012.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2012, at Grace Church, 4200 East 25th Street in Des Moines, with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Church in loving memory of Bill.

Dear Billie -- We were so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. I was out of town all last week and didn't know anything about it until I got back on Saturday. We had been praying for him. I always enjoyed visiting with your Dad -- he was such a kind gentleman. We are thankful to know that he is in Heaven and we will see him again some day.

We were sad to hear of Bill's death but know he was right with the Lord. I worked with Bill at Budget Storage on Martin Luther
King and really glad to get to know him and Judy. God Bless all of Bill's family.

I was always impressed with Bill Chaney. I loved the way he dressed, so it doesn't surprise me to see that he was a cowboy and was in rodeos. He always had a smile and was very kind to me. He had a twinkle in his eyes that I will never forget. My prayers and condolences to the Family. God comfort you all.
