Donald J. Wyckoff, 83, was born on February 26, 1923 to Earl and Eva Wyckoff in Cincinnati, Iowa. He went home to be with our Lord on November 11, 2006.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 14 from 5 PM to 8 PM at the First Assembly of God Church in Indianola. Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 15 at 10:00 AM at the First Assembly of God Church in Indianola with burial in the Carlisle Cemetery.
Don attended Lincoln High School and was married to Mary Rose Davis on May 30, 1942. Don enlisted in the United States Navy in late 1942. During Don’s four year naval term he was assigned to the USS Midway air craft carrier. Don was trained to be an electrician while on the Midway and this was the beginning of Don’s HVAC schooling. After his naval discharge Don returned to Des Moines and attended various HVAC schools throughout the country. Don started working for Universal Heating, and then moved to the Clark-Peterson company where he made life long friends with John, Jack, and Jerry Clark.
Don and Ken Horn started the Wyckoff-Horn Heating Company in 1950. In 1960 Don went out on his own and started his own business, Don Wyckoff Heating. Don retired in 1986 leaving the company in the care and leadership of his five sons. Don Wyckoff Heating purchased the Clark-Peterson Company in 1991 and the company is now doing business as Wyckoff Industries and is owned and operated by Don’s five sons and two oldest grandsons. It employs eleven other family members including Don’s two daughters along with seventy other employees.
Don and wife of 64 years, Mary Rose, were blessed to travel many wonderful places around the world.
Don enjoyed most sports. Among his favorite were baseball, golf, football, hunting, and fishing. Don was inducted into the Iowa Softball Hall of Fame in 1986.
Don attended Southtown Pentecostal Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary Rose; his five sons; Donnie (Jane) of Carlisle, Ronnie (Lee) of Carlisle, Doak (Becky) of Des Moines, Kyle (Kyrsta) of Carlisle, and Tobie (Jodi) of Carlisle; his two daughters, Pam (John) Barnett of Des Moines, and Kay (Jay) Lucas of Des Moines; his three sisters, Jean Le Dent of Mesa, AZ, Marie (Chuck) Austin of Des Moines, and Joan (Max) Fredrick of Des Moines; his 21 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 5 step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews along with a host of friends.
Memorials will be received by the family to be distributed among various charitable organizations. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home.
