Richard “Dick” Williams, 83, passed away October 2, 2012, at Park Ridge Manor Nursing Home in Pleasant Hill, with his family by his side. He was born December 31, 1928, in Des Moines, to Richard and Mildred Williams. He worked at Meredith Corporation in his younger years, and later decided to go into farming. He married Georgia A. Dykstra on April 4, 1947, and they moved to the farm in 1950.

Dick enjoyed restoring antique tractors and steam engines, square dancing with Georgia, and served on the school board. He also was a member of Central Hawkeye Gas Engine & Tractor Association, Inc., for many years.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 65 years, Georgia; sister, Pat Kleywegt of Altoona, IA; brother, Jim Williams of Colorado; daughters, Cynde (Bob) Pool of Runnells, IA, and Val (Mick) Derr of Maitland, MO; grandchildren, Teri Butler of Conrad, IA, Carol (Jamison) Graves of Runnells, IA, and Michael and Derek Derr of Maitland, MO; and great-grandchildren, Jayden and Jordan Graves, and Tanner and Bodie Butler.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines, followed by burial at Powers-Warren Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa State Fair Foundation, or to the Treasurer of the Central Hawkeye Gas Engine & Tractor Association.
