Arnold DuVall, 70, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2012, at Circle of Life Hospice in Chariton, Iowa. He was born December 11, 1941, in Kimballton, Iowa, to Duane and Norma (Rasmussen) DuVall.

Arnold grew up in the Elk Horn and Kimballton area. He moved to Polk City where he resided for 20 years, prior to relocating in Lacona, Iowa, where he has lived for the past 16 years. He was a Heavy Equipment Operator for more than 30 years, retiring in 2004.

Arnold was a lifetime member of the Pony Express Riders of Iowa, and was Tri-County Chairman for over 25 years. He coordinated and served as Chairman for one of the Pony Express Relay Rides from the Minnesota state line to Camp Sunnyside. He was also a member of the Ox-Bow Company and 30-year member of the Iowa State Trail Riders.

Arnold was involved in many aspects of fundraising to benefit Camp Sunnyside. Anything camp needed, he would do his best to furnish. He also assisted camp staff during respite weekends for several years.

Arnold loved his mules and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Marlene; children, Debbie DuVall Teague, Mike DuVall, Lisa DuVall McLaren, Lana DuVall Wittrock, and Joel DuVall; stepchildren, Charley Scarlett and Tanya Scarlett Woolery; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and his brothers, Roger DuVall and Wayne DuVall.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Burial of cremated remains will take place at Emmanuel Cemetery in Kimballton, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tri-County Pony Express Riders of Iowa in loving memory of Arnold.
