Charles John Yauk, 98, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012, at Taylor House Hospice, due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

Charles was born June 22, 1914, in Oralabor, Iowa, to Gregory and Katherine Yauk. He served in the U.S. Navy as Seabee during WWII. Charles retired from Bridgestone Firestone and was a member of the United Rubber Workers Union. He was also the oldest surviving member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, Lodge #86. He loved his family and enjoyed fishing and traveling to Minnesota and Texas. Charles was an avid Cubs fan.

Charles is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth; sons, Steve (Linda) Yauk and Dennis Yauk; granddaughter, Stephanie (Paul) Wilber; and great-grandchildren, Alayna and Meredith Wilber. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Katie Yauk, Mary O’Brien and Joann Holloran.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., with family present from 6 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Taylor House Hospice.
