Mabel H. Daniels, 93, passed away peacefully September 24, 2012, at Cedar View Health Center in Austin, Texas. She was born May 9, 1919, in New Virginia, Iowa, to Clarence and Marian Page. She lived in Des Moines most of her life, moving to Austin, Texas, for her last few years.

She worked during WWII in the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny, Iowa. Later she held two jobs – as a policy specialist at Interstate Assurance Company of Des Moines where she retired in 1984, and as a coat-check girl for Johnny & Kay’s Hyatt House.

She enjoyed caring for others and remained close to her daughter, Judy, and her grandchildren all their lives. She became a member of the Easton Place United Methodist Church on April 2, 1950, and maintained her membership there for close to 60 years. She was also a member of the Methodist Women’s Organization and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Mabel is survived by sisters, Marilyn Schaffer of Osceola and Violet Prentice of Louisiana, and a brother, Norman Page of Florida; three grandchildren: Kevin Bassett of Oregon, Kendra Sechovec of Texas, and Kristi Bassett of New Jersey; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard W. Daniels, daughter, Judith Bassett, sister Flora Belle Jolly, and brothers Herman, Gordon, and Corwin Page.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Easton Place United Methodist Church.
