Margaret Marcotte
September 15, 2012
Margaret passed to her final reward on September 15, 2012, in Altoona, Iowa, at the age of 94. She was born January 16, 1918, as the second child of twelve children to Robert and Ellen Bjorklund. She married Donald H. Marcotte, Sr., on May 8, 1937.
Margaret had a long and productive life. After graduating from High school as valedictorian of her class in Tracy, Minnesota, she went to Normal School where she met her future husband, Donald, and for a time they taught country school. After they were married they traveled around the country for Donald’s job. They settled for a time in Washington, D.C., but when Donald enlisted in the Army during WWII, she and their three children moved back to Tracy, Minnesota, to be closer to family. After the war and later, in 1953, they settled in Mankato, Minnesota, where they worked together running Northwest Electronics. In 1963, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Margaret studied for and earned her realtor’s license. She became the first woman manager of a big realty company in NE Minneapolis, The Spring Company, and worked there until she retired. She was also listed in Who’s Who of American Women. In later life she spent time as a docent at the Swedish Institute in St. Paul, created many beautiful counted cross stitch pieces, and also became a life master playing duplicate bridge.
Margaret will be laid to rest in Fort Snelling National Cemetery with her beloved husband, Donald, who preceded her in death by some 32 years. She is survived by seven of her twelve siblings; many nieces and nephews; her three children, Donald H. Marcotte, Jr., and his wife, Pat, of Arvada, Colorado, Yvonne Bengfort and her husband, Richard, of Altoona, Iowa, and James R. Marcotte and his wife, Gail, of Puyallup, Washington; six grandchildren, Pam, Scott, Colin, Dawn, Corey, and Kristen; and eight great-grandchildren, Katie, Lauren, Jeremy, Chelsey, Rose, Nina, Seth, and Penny.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Margaret.
Rest in peace, Margaret. Your family and friends thank God for sharing you with all of us these many years. Your sense of humor and great story telling will also be greatly missed.

Margaret trained and mentored me in the real estate business in Minneapolis. She was such a lady, so competent, a great dresser, smart, organized, popular to work for, fair and square, a sharp bridge player and most of all a friend. I will think of Margaret each time I pass her townhouse in St. Anthony! She talked so often of her children and grandchildren that we felt like we knew them as well. Margaret was a wonderful person.

I had the privilege if working with Margaret at Spring Co. in the mid 70s. She was a great mngr. and I learned so much from her. We did have lunch a couple of time after she retired. Such a delight.

Aunt Margaret was very special to me, she was my God Mother. Every year when I was young she would send me a birthday card, I looked forward to it, it was special and made me feel special. Aunt Margaret was special and always will be, I will miss Aunt Margaret. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
